Ben was born in Dallas, Texas, on October 17, 1928, and lived and worked for the majority of his life in Dallas. Ben was the son of Ben H Rosenthal, Sr. and Eva Rosenthal, and contributed throughout his life to a lasting legacy of the Rosenthal Family in Dallas.
Ben was married to his beloved wife Janie, who predeceased him, for 59 years. He devoted his life in service to Janie, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family and friends. Although he owned and operated a successful custom residential building company, Ben’s true passion, beyond family, was given to providing service through a number of organizations. Of particular note, Ben served as a proud Mason. More notably, Ben served his religion in a multitude of ways: he served as President of the Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood and devoted countless hours throughout his lifetime to a large variety of Temple Emanu-El activities, such as devoted work with the Temple Emanu-El choir and music program (including organizing and managing trips around the world), art auctions, High Holy Day service activities and food services for seniors.
Ben is survived by, among others: children - Shari and Keith Colombik, Ellen Angelica and Bill Whaling, and Gail and Ken Kopf; grandchildren - Stacey and Douglas Lawrence, Bryan and Rozzie Colombik, Billy and Keli Whaling, Jennifer and Nate Christy, and Jonathan and Laura Kopf; great-grandchildren - Braden Lawrence, Shoshana Lawrence, Dylan Colombik, Matthew Colombik, McKinley Whaling; and sister and brother-in-law, Jeannie and Barry Miller.
Special thanks are extended to Donzell Jenkins and his many other devoted caregivers, as well as to Ben’s many dear friends. Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2013, at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, Texas 75225. Rabbi David Stern will be leading the memorial service. Donations may be made in Ben’s honor to the Temple Emanu-El Music Fund (address above) or to a charity of your choice.
