Deacon Ben Robinson, Jr. was born on April 2, 1929 in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of Ben Robinson, Sr. and Nora (Freeman) Robinson. Ben attended the Dallas Independent School District and later graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.
Deacon Robinson was employed with the Dallas Transit System (DTS) for the City of Dallas for many years. He was among one of the first black bus drivers for the company. He worked in various positions throughout his tenure with company, including Supervisor. He later retired from DART in 1995 after 37+ years of service.
Deacon Robinson met and married Theresa L. Robinson and to this union (5) children were born. They were happily married for 41 years until her demise in 1990. Later he met and married Ruby Jean Haggerty on July 11, 1992, no children were born to this union.
Deacon Robinson confessed and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a loyal and faithful member of the New El Bethel Baptist Church for 70 years. Deacon Robinson served in various auxiliaries including: the Deacon Board, the Male Chorus, and the Senior Usher Board. Deacon Robinson was a devoted student of the Bible and loved to attend Sunday School and Bible class despite his illness.
Deacon Robinson answered the clarion call and transitioned on Friday May 4, 2018 at Charlton Methodist Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Nora Robinson, his loving wife Theresa L. Robinson; two sisters, Elnora Robinson -Branch and Pearlie May Robinson-Jones; two brothers, James Edgar Robinson and Sam Robinson.
He leaves to cherish his memories and legacy: a devoted wife of 25 years, Mrs. Ruby Jean Robinson; (3) daughters, Benita Robinson-Henderson, Dr. Deneese L. Robinson-Jones (Stephen) and Renee Robinson-Lewis (Howard); (2) sons, Reginald Eugene Robinson (Kim) and Edward Gerald Robinson (Jackie); (2) sisters, Naomi Robinson-Hill and Callie Robinson-Starks; a brother, Freeman Robinson; (13) grandchildren, (28) great grandchildren, (4) great-great grandchildren; (2) God-daughters, Deveta Williams and Debra Weeks; a host of nieces and nephews and cousins and other relatives and host of friends and his church family, New El Bethel Church who will greatly miss Deacon Robinson.
