Born in Wichita Falls. TX. On August 31, 1926, she is survived by her three children, daughter Leslie Danielle Varel, and sons Nicholous Mark Varel (wife Gloria) and Daniel Warren Varel, Jr. (wife Malena). Grandchildren, Jessica V. Carlton, Nicholous M. Varel, Jr., Alexander J. Varel, Ella C. Varel and Naomi Mikus (husband Jeremy). Great Grandchildren John Carlton. Caroline Carlton, Smith Varel, Lennon Varel, Harper Varel, Eve Varel and twins River & Ryder Mikus. She is predeceased by parents Peter L. Fischer and Elizabeth N. Fischer and son Christopher M, Varel.
Barbara's love of family always came first and was most important She started her education at North Texas State Teachers College in Denton, TX, and was chosen Texas Aggie Sweetheart in her freshman year. She was also chosen Miss Dallas. She completed her education at the University of Oklahoma. She spent her summers in Chicago, modeling for the Patricia Stevens Agency and she was chosen Miss 20th Anniversary of Talking Motion Pictures for Warner Bros. In Dallas, she met and married Daniel Warren Varel, Sr. for 25 years. Their company was represented in 57 countries. She was a world traveler, spoke 3 languages and kept a residence in Paris, France, for 10 years. Late,r she had a home on S. Padre Island, TX, and her estate in Ajijic, Mexico, but Dallas was always her home. Barbara served on 11 executive boards in Dallas, including Chairman of The Crystal Charity Ball, Chairman of the Women's Board of the Dallas Civic Opera, Board of Trustees for the Dallas Theater Center, Planned Parenthood and a founder of TACA. She was an accomplished artist and enjoyed playing golf, tennis and bridge. Barbara said she was so very blessed to have a wonderful family, fabulous friends and to have lived a blissfully happy life.
As matriarch of our family, she touched our lives in so many kind and loving ways. We will always remember her generous heart, her laughter, her undeniable beauty and we rest comfortably knowing she is watching over us from Heaven.
A private memorial service will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021. to honor and celebrate her long and always loving life. The family asks that, due to the coronavirus, only immediate family attend. Memorials may be given in her name to The Crystal Charity Ball Committee for their tireless work benefitting local children's causes and/or the SPCA for neglected & abandoned animals.
