She was born January 1, 1934, in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Madison Luther Feris and Frances Maurine Feris neé Martin.
Barbara graduated Valedictorian from Sunset High School in December of 1951. Following graduation Barbara married Millard Donald Short and they settled in Oak Cliff, Dallas, Texas. Barbara attended Mountain View Community College and El Centro Community College where she earned a degree in nursing and went on to work at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas for 23 years until her retirement in 1999. During her time there she touched the lives of many families and was proud to have been a founding member the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital Legacy Scholarship Program, a scholarship for former patients. She remained a member of the scholarship committee long after her retirement.
Barbara was a long-time member of Elmwood Methodist Church in Dallas Texas.
Her deep joy was in her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard, her husband Donald and great niece Alyssa. Surviving her are her daughter Donna and Donna’s husband Phillip, her son David, her son Stephen and his wife Coleen, her son Timothy and his wife Kari, her son Richard and his wife Alice, as well as grandchildren Joshua and his wife Samantha, Austin, Madison and her husband Muctarr, Jacob, Daniel, Alejandro, Caleb, Ana and Ryan; and great grand children Levi, Pierce, Grant, Barrett, and Maxwell, as well as sister-in-law Charline, her partner Gary, nephew Greg and his wife Cindy, niece Lisa and her husband Eddie, great nephews Brandon and Luke, and great nieces Adelie and Emory.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Wednesday, December 21st, from 1:00 pm to 4 pm at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L. Thornton Fwy, Dallas, Texas and funeral and internment services at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6300 South R.L. Thornton Fwy, Dallas, Texas at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22nd.
