Audrey Lee Sturdivant, Irving, TX, passed away July 14, 2012, while visiting family in St. Louis, MO. She left us with great love and joy in her heart as she spent her last days surrounded by her family which she so dearly loved. She was born December 23, 1938, in Coxton, KY, to John Henry Sturdivant and Ollie Mae Horton Sturdivant. She grew up in Toledo, OH, confessed her faith and was baptized at an early age, becoming a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and later joining Warren AME Church. Her unwavering faith and devotion to God was beautifully manifested throughout her life. After graduating from Libbey High School, Audrey began nursing training. She graduated from The Northwestern Ohio Practical Nurse Training Center becoming a licensed practical nurse. Aspiring to greater heights, she continued her training and received an Associate’s Degree of Nursing from the University of Toledo to become a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse at both Mercy and Riverside Hospitals in Toledo, OH.
In 1986, Audrey relocated to Irving, TX, where she continued her illustrious nursing career working at Irving Hospital, Irving Home Health/Baylor/Care South and Northgate Plaza. She shared her nursing experience, expertise and teaching skills by working with Good Samaritan, Divine Mercy, and VCP Home Health Agencies. Audrey took great pride in her work and insisted on providing quality, compassionate patient care. Her life was one of service as she worked tirelessly for the greater health, welfare and happiness of her patients, family and friends.
She was an avid traveler and reader who enjoyed the discovery of different cultures, food and music. And she enjoyed sharing every adventure with her family, entertaining them with stories that evoked smiles and laughter.
Audrey was a caring, loving, Christian woman. She loved her family and cherished her dogs. She is preceded in death by her beloved mother Ollie Mae. She is survived by her father: John Henry; children: Marlon (Darla) Stewart, LaMont (Charlotte) Stewart, Anietie Antia-Obong; siblings: John Robert, Loretta, Donald, Tyrone (Gloria) Sturdivant; grandchildren: Marissa, Malon, Jacqueline, Dala, Darius; nieces and nephews she helped to rear: Brian (La Shandra), John Rodney (Adrian), Seanna (Samuel); and a host of other close relatives, extended family and loving friends.
