Audrey Lynn Graham passed away Sunday, February 4th after a valiant fight with cancer. She was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on December 22, 1960, as the eldest daughter of Genie Keith Graham and Jerry Lynn Graham of Fairhope, Alabama. As part of a Navy family, Audrey lived in places up and down the West and East Coasts, but she most fondly remembered her home in Orange Park, Florida where she graduated in the top of her class from Orange Park High School. While academics were her priority, she also made time for many other activities in sports and clubs, leading the high school volleyball and women’s golf teams as well as FCA and NHS.
She attended the University of Mississippi on a US Air Force scholarship, where she majored in chemistry and was an active part of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. As in high school, she excelled in her studies and still made time to be active in campus life to include being a little sister in her brother’s Beta Theta Pi fraternity.
Following graduation, Audrey was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force and proudly served for many years, leaving the service with the rank of Major. Following service in the Air Force Cruise Missile Program, she participated in a competitive selection process and was accepted into the Air Force's program for medical professionals. She attended Georgetown Medical School in Washington DC. Upon graduation, she continued to serve in the military as a surgeon specializing in OB/GYN, where she could make a positive impact on families, women and children. Her military career continued with tours at the US Air Force Academy and Wilford Hall in San Antonio, where she worked in military hospitals helping women bring life into this world. As a highly skilled surgeon Audrey also deployed to serve wounded service members, flying missions during military operations in medically outfitted C-141 aircraft.
After 12 years, Audrey left active duty and moved to Dallas where she joined the Renaissance Women’s Wellness practice and associated with Baylor as an OB/GYN. She continued her career as a doctor and was at the vanguard of emerging technologies such as robotic surgery and new, less invasive procedures.
Audrey loved many things in life, but most of all her son Caleb Scout Graham. He was her joy and they had many wonderful adventures across Europe and the US. Whether movies, trips, shopping, scouts or fishing she was involved so she could spend quality time with Caleb. The same could be said for her family; as a daughter, a sister, an aunt, or a cousin, she wanted to engage and be involved and to help in any way she could. She loved her friends deeply and there were many, spread through Dallas and across the country from Boston to LA; she would go to visit and she would welcome them in home no matter the situation. She was a very generous, giving and loving soul.
Audrey lives on in the hearts of her parents Genie and Jerry, her son Caleb, her brother John Keith Graham and his wife Margaret and their children Scott and Sarah Hesskamp and her husband Dustin, her sister Julia LaNé Kane and her husband Jeff Kane and their children Emily and Joe.
A memorial service celebrating Audrey’s life will be held Greenland Hills United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 17th, at 11 AM, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to honor Audrey's memory through contributions to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (www.bcrf.org).
