Arthur Herman Stern, born July 8, 1920, died January 5, 2012. Memorial Service: 11 a.m., Sunday January 8, at Temple Emanuel, in the Lefkowitz Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Along with his friends, Henry Schlinger and Edwin Toblowsky (who predeceased him), Arthur was a life-long Dallas resident. Arthur was the youngest of the three children of Sarah and Robert Stern. He was a graduate of Forest High School, attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1943. Arthur met his wife of 64 years before entering the US Navy. He served as a Lt. JG, was the Commander of LST 360 on D Day +8 and made the Rhine River Crossing. Arthur returned to Dallas after WWII to lead Robert Stern Insurance Agency, which was founded by his father. He built the agency into a Dallas institution by always looking after the best interests of his clients. His friends were his clients, and his clients his friends. He operated the agency for 51 years until he retired in 1995. He was one of the first Presidents of the Dallas chapter of Certified Property Casualty Underwriters (CPCU), which became his automobile license plate. Arthur married Helen Felice Bruchsaler on March 23, 1947; they had three children. He relished every day of his nearly 65 years of family life. He was a devoted sports fan, and long-time season ticket holder of both the Cowboys and the Mavericks. He loved to travel, but, most of all, to spend time with his family. Arthur was devoted to helping people, generous to a fault and always there for others. Arthur always said that it was better to be lucky than smart, but he was both. Arthur was preceded in death by his brother Eugene and sister Helen. He is survived by his wife Helen; children Ronald and wife Elisse Walter, Richard and wife Deby and Cynthia; sister-in-law Ruth; and grandchildren Jonathan, Evan and wife Grace So, Nicole (the apple of his eye), Alex and Brittney Lamb. Special thanks go to Lue Simpson, his devoted friend and caretaker.
