He will always be remembered as a loving husband, supportive father and steadfast friend to all that knew and loved him.
He was born on March 14, 1932 in Torrington, Wyoming to Anna and Arthur Lyke. Jim attended Torrington High School, graduating in 1951 and joined the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He served during the Korean War on the USS Manchester (CL-83), known as one of “the most fightingest ships” in the Pacific, as a Radar Operator. In 1960, Jim graduated from the University of Wyoming. He spent that summer in Laramie where he met his future wife, Karen. Jim and Karen married September 30, 1961 in St Ignace, Michigan.
Jim spent a career working for the US Department of Labor, moving to Washington, D.C. and Dallas, Texas. Jim spent the majority of his career in Dallas and the family lived in Irving, Texas. Jim was a member at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church and became very involved in the Knights of Columbus, where he volunteered many hours.
Jim is survived by his wife, Karen Lyke, of Arlington; his brother, Leo and wife Barbara, of Point; his daughter, Monica and husband Kevin, of Houston; his son, Darin and wife Jennifer, of Mansfield; grandchildren, Mark Jones, Kara Mueller, Elizabeth McChesney John Jones, Ross Jones, Logan Lyke and Elizabeth Lyke; great-grandchildren Avery Mueller, Kelsey Mueller and James Jones.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; mother, Anna; and, father, Arthur.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 11, 2022 at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church in Irving, Texas, with viewing 30 minutes before. Interment for family only will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
