Archie Lee Cumbo, also known as Mimi to her grandchildren, lived a life of faith in Jesus Christ, love, sacrifice and generosity. Born in Falls County, Texas near Waco. She received her LVN nursing degree at a school in Detroit, Michigan. After nursing school, she moved to San Antonio. While living in San Antonio, she met her husband, Charlie Cumbo whom she married March 12, 1963. To this union of 26 years, she had 2 daughters; Sherri Cumbo Inman and Patrice Cumbo Mason.
The family moved to Dallas in 1972. Archie loved her children more than life itself. She often signed her children up for every activity imaginable; swimming, gymnastics, roller skating, ceramic classes, floral arrangements, knitting, crocheting, you name it, they did it. While living in Dallas, she was involved in the PTA at every school Patrice and Sherri attended, holding an office of leadership on the PTA Board. Many people knew her as the wedding flower lady in which she loved making the floral arrangements. Nothing made her happier than making flowers for weddings, decorating the church and reception hall.
Even though she was a nurse for many, many years, her true calling was to be a teacher. Not only did she teach her grandchildren to read before Kindergarten, she taught many children in the community as well. She would set up her classroom in the den of her home. She wanted nothing more than her children and grandchildren to obtain a trade or college degree.
While living in Dallas, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1974 at Beverly Hills Baptist Church. This is when God began to take her on a journey to not only change her life, but to change her family tree. Through her faith, her husband, children and grandchildren have all accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. That is the legacy she left behind for which we are so eternally grateful.
Archie was preceded in death by her husband Charles Cumbo (1989), her brothers; Ben Frank Smith (2004) and Harvey Lee Smith (2018).
Archie is survived by two daughters - Patrice Mason (Leon Mason) and Sherri Inman (Robert Inman, Jr), one Granddaughter - Erin Inman, three Grandsons - Kenneth Charles (KC) Roberts, Leon Mason Jr. (LJ), Nigel Mason. Several nieces - Millicent Smith, Pamela Smith, Barbara Smith, family and friends.
