Born Annie Mae Matthews in Houston, TX on 29 October 1929, Anna was a product of the Depression but didn’t let that define her. Born on Black Tuesday, the great stock market crash that kicked off the Great Depression, Anna overcame much to live a very full and blessed life. More important than the time in which she was born is the faith in her Lord and Savior that she displayed throughout her life and her love of family and her many friends. Anna was united with the Lord on Thursday, 6 October 2022 in her home in Dallas.
Anna graduated from Northside High School, in Ft. Worth in 1947.
Anna met and married her husband of 61 years, Robert Vernon Holt of Ft. Worth on 19 July 1947. Vernon’s career in the oil industry took the family from Ft. Worth to Irving, TX then Oklahoma City, Chattanooga, Carrollton and Salado. Anna relocated to Dallas after Vernon’s passing in 2008. She was a long-time resident of Highland Springs Senior Living where she was very active with a variety of activities. She was known as the ‘doll lady’ for her extensive involvement with the doll & crib project that blessed so many children.
Anna and Vernon welcomed Larry Ray in 1948 while residing in Ft. Worth. Five years later, Larry was joined by his sister, Linda Kay. Together they formed an active, loving family.
Professionally, Anna was very highly regarded in a variety of roles including serving as church secretary at Village Baptist Church and then Executive Secretary to the President of Baptist Memorial Hospital, both in Oklahoma City. She also served many years as Executive Secretary to the VP of International Operations for Otis Engineering. She developed close professional and personal friends at each of these positions.
Anna was proceeded in death by her mother, Lillie Annie Boeker and father Roland Duff Matthews and her husband, Robert Vernon Holt. She is survived by her son, Larry Ray Holt and wife, Diane, of Mission Viejo, CA and daughter, Linda Holt Harrison and husband, Mark, of Dallas. Four grandchildren, Amy Denise Holt of Mission Viejo, CA; Wendy Rae Holt Schellinger and husband, Tod, of Los Angeles, CA; Gray Hampton Harrison and wife Madeleine, of Plano, TX and Andrew James Holt and wife, Katrina O’Meara, of Placentia, CA. Seven great grandchildren, Alexandra Marie Ramirez and Jacob Robert Holt both of Mission Viejo, CA; Wesley Holt Schellinger and Poppy Rae Schellinger of Los Angeles, Keegan Holt Harrison and Audrey Moyer Harrison of Plano, TX and Hudson Timothy Holt of Placentia, CA.
The family would like to express our special thanks to Robert & Alice of Kori’s Kind Helpers along with Irene & Rose, Visiting Nurses Association (VNA) – especially Amanda, Highland Springs Medical Center along with the entire Highlands Spring staff and the many kind friends who have added support.
A visitation for family and friends is scheduled for Thursday, 13 October 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00PM at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 Pres. George Bush Turnpike, Dallas. A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, 14 October 2022 at 1:00PM at Highland Springs Senior Living, 8000 Frankford Road, Dallas, TX with internment on Saturday, 15 October at 1:00 PM in the Salado Cemetery, Salado, TX.
