Ann M. Vaught passed away on April 15, 2015 at her home in Dallas, TX surrounded by family and friends. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, wife and “Nonnie”, and compassionate friend to all that knew and loved her.
Born on December 9, 1936 in Dallas, TX to Weldon “Speedy” and Mayola Crum Mason, she graduated from Highland Park HS and attended SMU where she was very active in the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was a 6th generation Texan. On June 1, 1957, she married Alex Vaught. Ann’s career in Dallas real estate spanned 40 years, 22 of those in management. She was an award winning top producer, and enjoyed her career tremendously. Well known and respected in the Dallas real estate community, Ann was a customer oriented, problem solver who led by example and mentored many women and men who have enjoyed long and successful careers.
She was also an avid reader and loved books, especially histories. She loved tennis and taught many young players to love the game also. She traveled the world extensively with her husband and her girlfriends, the “Ya-Yas” and their husbands, the “Yo-Yos”. Once retired, Ann rekindled her love for knitting. It became her new hobby and passion. Mostly she loved spending time with her family and friends celebrating life: Christmases, Thanksgivings and numerous other holidays. Birthdays were especially festive with Ann. Singing slightly off-key in her rich alto voice, she would sing the lyric, repeating “happy birthday” over and over again to match the age of the honoree. She was a patron of the arts and loved the opera. For 33 years she was a subscriber to The Dallas Opera. She loved all things British: history, literature, television shows and many trips to London and other European cities with her sister, Midge and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Alex Vaught, her 3 daughters and their spouses: Melinda and Paul Cleaveland, Nancy Matisse, Molly and Lee Heironimus, her grandchildren: Mac Cleaveland, Brock and Taylor Dudley, Annie and Emily Heironimus, her sister and sister’s spouse: Midge and Jim Gannon, her brother and his spouse: Kip and Lisa Mason, and numerous nieces and nephews, an Aunt and several cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas 75230.
