Anita Jo Allen Johnson

Family & friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday, August 26th, and 10:00 am at Laurel Land Funeral Home for Anita Jo Allen Johnson, who passed away after fighting a long battle with cancer on Friday, August 2, 2019. She was 74 years old.

Anita was born on October 27, 1944, in Dallas, TX to Paul and Gladys Allen. She was educated in Dallas public schools and graduated from W. W. Samuel High School in 1963. Anita continued her life-long commitment to learning and teaching others by graduating from Bethany Nazarene College in 1968 with a degree in Education. She soon returned to teach 32 years in Dallas ISD, teaching the joy of language and literature to the students of Woodrow Wilson High School, E. B. Comstock Middle School, and J. L. Long Middle school.

Anita was a dedicated mother and grandmother, treasuring her time with her grandchildren and hosting and cooking for family dinners and celebrations. She took true joy in celebrating through food, always looking for the best recipe to share with friends and family. She was a longtime member of the Oak Cliff Woman’s Club, serving on many committees such as Antique Study Club, Garden Club, and Festival of Tables, and as club President from 2012 to 2014.

Cherished wife of Steven Johnson. Mother to Stephanie Hopper and Allen Johnson. Beloved Grandma to Eva, Elizabeth, and Rian. Dear Sister to Eva Rhodes, deceased, and David Allen & wife Nita. Also lovingly survived by Matt, husband of Stephanie, and Ruth, wife of Allen, niece Amanda Aguillon and family, and many cousins.
