Ana Maria Guterrez, 95, died peacefully on the morning of August 6, 2015, in the Walnut Place Assisted Living Facility in Dallas, Texas, Where she lived for the past six years. Ana Maria was born January 21st, 1920 in the city of Jalapa, Mexico, the daughter of Jose Perez Oronoz and Ana Maria Berea de Perez Oronoz.
She was the eldest of five daughters and lived in Mexico City throught her early years. On July 28, 1945 Ana Maria married the love of her life, Dr. Jose G. Gutierrez, in Mexico City, where he practiced medicine until they moved to Dallas, Texas in 1962, where he continued his medical practice until his death in 1994. In the later years of his professional life, Ana Maria worked with him as his office manager.
Ana Maria was an avid golfer, loved to cook for her family and friends, and at one time, side by side with her lifelong friend, Yolanda Cuellar, gave Mexican cooking lessons to many Dallasites and some of her recipes contributed to the success of her son’s restaurant, Javier’s. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and sightseeing, she was very involved in developing and supporting Hispanic cultural activities.
Ana Maria, a devout Catholic, was a member of ST. Monica’s Church in Dallas, and, later, Christ the King Catholic Church in the same city.
Ana Maria is survived by two sisters, Josefina and Alicia, Five children Pepe, Ana Maria, Pilar, Javier, and Carmen, eleven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. All will miss her joyful and loving disposition.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Monday, August 10, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Rd, Dallas, TX, 75225, with Monsignor Donald Zimmerman as celebrant. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. The family will also receive friends from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on the evening of Sunday, August 9, 2015, followed by a prayer vigil from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Highway Dallas, TX, 75225. Burial will be a private ceremony at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery, Dallas TX.
