Amy Loraine Blackburn, resident of Dallas Country since 1954 entered the presence of God on Sunday evening February 1, 2015, at the age of 89. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was born in Mereta, Texas, a small town near San Angelo on January 11, 1926, to loving Christian parents. She graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 1948. Amy and her children moved to Dallas in 1954 where she was a first grade teacher for the DISD for 34 years having taught first grades at Amelia Earhart, Thomas Edison, Clara Oliver and Winnetka Elementary schools. She was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1979-80 at Winnetka Elementary School. She retired from there in 1986. Amy was a member of First Baptist Church of Dallas and listened faithfully every Sunday morning to services on KCBI when she could no longer attend. She was preceded in death by parents Ray and Margie Whitfield, brother Willis Whitfield, twin sister Annie, and son Lance Blackburn. She is survived by daughters Donna Norton and Jackie Loria, brother Lawrence Whitfield and wife Dee, sister-in-law Belva Whitfield, and daughter-in-law Sherri Blackburn; grandchildren John Norton, Stacey Crow and husband Chuck, and Amy Jean Blackburn. Also, niece and nephews Joe Whitfield, Jim Whitfield, Evva and husband Mark Jamison, and Ray Whitfield and six great-grand children. The family wishes to give special thanks of appreciation to Cyndi of Fidelis Home Care for bringing joy and loving care to Amy's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Dallas for the Mission 1:8 program. The visitation will be from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 5, 2015, at Laurel Land Funeral Home with graveside services on Friday, February 6, 2015, 1:00 PM - 2 PM.
