Alvin Lewis Taylor was called home by his heavenly father on January 11, 2022 after 97 extraordinary years. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 23, 1924 as the eldest son to John C. and Fannie Mae Taylor.
Alvin lived life to the fullest and was a cherished father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Alvin was a World War II veteran where he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. After completing his military service, Alvin started his career as an electrician. He retired from Ling Electric after 42 years of service and was a member of the IBEW Local 20 in Dallas for the past 72 years. Alvin was a nature enthusiast and was fascinated by the great outdoors and wildlife. He had a passion for traveling, sports, woodworking and spending time with his family. Alvin had an active social life and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW Post 8785 in Mesquite, TX. Even recently, you could find him there visiting with friends and having a good time.
Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, John C. Taylor and Fannie Mae Zuber; his sister, Stella Brown and husband, Howard; his sister, Waughnetta Hawkins and husband, Ray. Alvin is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Taylor and Donna Avery and husband, John; his granddaughters, Melissa Campbell and husband, Chris; Shanda Jaure and husband, Tony; Angie Wall and husband, Josh and Susan Salmon; his nine great grandchildren, two great great granddaughters; brother, Thomas F. Taylor and wife, Evelyn; and many more extended family members and friends.
Alvin will be forever remembered for his smile, his humor, his firm handshake, his caring heart and his unconditional love. Although our hearts are tremendously heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us.
A visitation will be held at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South RL Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232 on January 26, 2022 at 1pm. A funeral service will begin on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at 2pm with committal service immediately following.
