Allen William Burgess, 91, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on November 24, 2012. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Manske Burgess, and his first-born son, Allen W. Burgess, Jr. He is survived by his 5 children and their spouses : Keith Burgess, George and Stephanie Burgess, Mary Anne and Paul Smith, Nancy Burgess and Kevin Brewer, and Susan and Hank Pardo; also, by his grandchildren : Bucky Burgess, Carly and David McCorkle (son, Cody), Ali Burgess, Hap and Jack Pardo, Maggie and Georgia Smith, Kyle May and Michelle May; also, by his dear caretakers, Lourdes Munoz, and Luisa Larios; also, by his sister-in-law, Mary Beall Burgess, and many nieces and nephews. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School, St. Joseph High School, Texas A& M University, and Notre Dame Midshipman School. Before college he enlisted in the Machine Gun Troop, 112th Cavalry. He served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II on the ammunition ship, AE8 Mauna Loa, and made the landing on Guam near the end of the war. Allen worked for the Peat, Marwick and Mitchell Company and became a Certified Public Accountant. Next, he was employed by the Internal Revenue Service before opening his own accounting firm, Burgess Company in the 1950’s. He operated it successfully for many years before turning it over to his son, George Burgess. During his life he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Kiwanis Club, Toastmasters, and the Dallas Chapter of CPA’s. He was a long-time member of the Downtown YMCA, where he played handball and went swimming for most of his life. His family will warmly remember his big heart and his wonderful sense of humor, as well as the many lessons they learned from his careful guidance and his good example. A Rosary will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a Mass, Wednesday, November 28th, Calvary Hill Mausoleum North Chapel.
