We praise God for the special gift of allowing us to love and be loved by Alice M. Hicks (affectionately known as “Ree” by her family members). Alice was born on November 4, 1943, in Rusk County to her parents E.C. and Dora Centers. She departed this life on October 24, 2022, in Dallas, Texas. Throughout her life she was a very loving and caring person. All who came to know Alice grew to love her.
At an early age Alice gave her life to Christ at the Fredonia Baptist Church of Henderson, Texas. After relocating to Dallas, Texas she became a member of Eastgate Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and was a faithful member. She later transferred to Community Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member and usher. Alice graduated from Butler College (AA Degree), Texas College (Bachelors Degree), and Texas Women’s University(Master’s Degree). She also did post graduate work at North Texas State University, now known as the University of North Texas. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority INC. After graduating she began her teaching career in Weslaco, Texas. She later moved back to Dallas and began teaching in the Dallas Independent School District. She retired in 2007 from Dallas Independent School District after 42 years of service.
Alice’s memory will be cherished by her children, daughter Alysha N. Shaw, one son James (Candais) Hicks. Three grandchildren Jasmine Shaw, Kelvin Noel, Allison Hicks, and Chase Tinner. 4 great grandchildren Jae’Vian Jones, Jae’Den Lee, Kaison Noel and Kelvin Noel JR. She is also survived by her sister and brothers Don(Margie) Centers, Barbara Centers, Doris(Al) Starks, Jackie(Wayne) Shaw, Dean(Jeanna) Centers, and Gene(Tammy) Centers and a host of nieces & nephews, cousins and friends.
A repass for Alice will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Community Missionary Baptist Church, 115 W. Belt Line Rd, DeSoto, TX 75115. A wake service will occur Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, 115 W. Belt Line Rd, DeSoto, TX 75115. A commital service will occur Monday, October 31, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6300 South R.L Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232.
