Alice was born to Eleanor and George Parker on May 19, 1929 in New Rochelle, New York and was the oldest of three children. Alice started her career in fashion with Bloomingdales in New York before moving to Dallas in the early 1950s. Shortly thereafter, Alice joined Sanger Harris, where she had a long and successful career. While Alice had an incredible sense of style, her real JOY was her family. After moving to Dallas, Alice met the love of her life Marshall Greenberg, a Minneapolis native, and they married in 1958. They raised four beautiful children and had a wonderful 29 years of marriage before Marshall passed away in 1988. Throughout her life, Alice loved spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her family was her happy place.
Alice was a strong, smart, independent women. She was well-read and could debate world events with the best of them. She mastered the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle on a weekly basis – an amazing feat. She loved attending plays, visiting museums, and having a meal and a glass of wine with dear friends. She volunteered as a docent at the Dallas Museum of Art and made many friends during her time there. If there was a beach close by, Alice was there with her toes in the sand and soaking up the sun. She spent many summer days on Long Island with her siblings and the extended Parker family. Alice loved to travel and see the world – from European tours, to special trips with her grandchildren, to Zambia Africa at the young age of ninety to visit orphaned and vulnerable children. Her faith was her rock. She was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church for fifty years and later attended Christ the King Catholic Church. She was very active in her church serving as a Sunday school teacher and a member of the women’s bible study and St. Theresa Circle. A big thank you to Father Tony Lackland for visiting Alice two days before she died. “All of your sins have been forgiven”, he said. Alice quickly agreed, “good, all my sins are gone, flew out the window”. Alice never lost her sense of humor or her love for life, and what a wonderful life on earth it was. Sweet Alice was deeply loved and will be missed by many friends and family. While we are all saddened by the loss, we are comforted by the fact that Alice knew where she was going, and she was ready to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
Alice is predeceased by her husband Marshall Greenberg and their son John David Greenberg, her parents, and younger brother George Parker. She is survived by: her younger sister Virginia Poling; her son Mark Greenberg (Michelle), and their three children – Mason, Madison and Mitchell; her daughter Nancy Hickey (husband Clifford), and their four children – Marshall (wife Mallory), Kathleen Murray (husband Patrick), Clare, and Julia Landess (husband Joey); her daughter Julie Donaldson (husband Michael), and their three children – Parker, Andrew and Kate; her son Neil Greenberg (wife Renea) and their three children – Zach, Georgia and Tobey; and seven great-grandchildren (and another due this month).
Funeral services will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church on Monday, May 13th at 11:00am, followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Alice to Catholic Charities of Dallas, 1421 W. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75247.
