Alan was born in Erath, Louisiana on January 30, 1955. He married the love of his life in 1977 in Lafayette, Louisiana and then found his way to Midlothian, Texas in 1979 with her. At a very young age, Alan began riding and working with Thoroughbred Race Horses. He was a natural, but too tall to ride professionally. He never lost his love for horses. He always made sure he was somewhere he could watch the Kentucky Derby and the races leading up to it. In 1989 Alan went to work at Jefferson Smurfitt box plant, where he became a Supervisor. When the plant closed down 15 years later he began perfecting the craft of woodworking until he went to work for the City of Midlothian and became their Animal Control Officer. He retired from the City in 2013.
Alan leaves behind his wife of 45 years Debbie Russell Romero; two sons and their families: John Alan, wife Therese and son Samuel; David Michael and sons Kurt and Escher. Brothers: Richard and wife Kathy, Beaux and wife Patricia & Timmy; and many Nieces and Nephews.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley “John” & Eva Conner Romero and his brother Phillip.
