Alan Henig was born in Newark, NJ, on March 24, 1924, to Ida Kaplan Henig & Israel Henig. He attended school in Newark ,where he graduated from Weequahic High School in 1941. Alan moved to Austin, Texas, to attend the University of Texas until his education was interrupted by his service in the US Army during World War II.
Alan served from 1942-1946 in the 788th Amphibious Tractor Battalion and was part of the Phillipines Liberation Campaign. He later served in the Korean conflict, until he was honorably discharged in April 1952. He was awarded several medals and citations including, but not limited to, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal with 2 Bronze Stars and the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars.
After World War II, Alan returned to UT and graduated with a BA in 1949. Alan worked for many years in Texas as the consummate Sales Representative who never forgot a name or a birthday. Alan was also a 32nd Degree Mason and 50 year member of Hella Temple Shrine.
Alan was predeceased by his first wife, Cecelia Fischer Henig, and is survived by their four children; Keith and his wife Linda, Irene Sackreiter and her husband Russ, Jimmy and his wife Angie, and Sandra Parish and her husband Andy. Alan is also survived by his granddaughters; Katy Knapp and her husband Andrew, Hilary Moore and her husband Brent, and his great-grandchildren Bailey and Leo Moore.
Alan was also predeceased by his second wife Constance (Connie) Thompson Henig, as well as her daughters Tracy Carter and Marty Thompson. He is survived by his stepchildren; Teresa Carter, her husband Curtis and Philip Thompson. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren Chris Carter and Evan Carter.
Alan loved all his family members as well as his extended family in West Orange, NJ – including his beloved sister Phyllis Henig Jacobs, her children Ira Jacobs, Andrew Jacobs and Irene Beyth and his greatnieces and nephews. Alan also loved his Dallas area family, including but not limited to his nephew Richard Johnson and his wife Barbara, as well as his longtime companion Dorothy Bemel.
Alan had many, many longtime friends and made several new friends at Traditions-Prestonwood. He also enjoyed spending time with his walking “coffee” friends Katie Roberts, Jan Woodman and Pam & Scott Dagen. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
A special thanks to his caregiver-friends Janice (Sam) Johnson, as well as Nikki Wilson and Tesha Wilson who provided wonderful care to him during his later years of life.

A graveside service for Alan will be held Thursday, October 28, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Mausoleum & Memorial Park, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX, 75225.
