Adela Alvarado Gonzalez passed away peacefully in her sleep, on September 30, 2020, while vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. She was born on June 17, 1942 in Poteet, Texas to Refugio Alvarado and Florencia Garcia Alvarado.
As a young girl she attended Poteet Elementary School until the 6th grade. Her father moved she and her family to Dallas, where she attended William B.Travis Elementary and Alex W.Spence for junior high, and Crozier Technical High School. She also attended Dallas Baptist University as well as Texas Women’s University.
At a chance meeting, while attending a dance at the Star Club in Dallas, Adela met the love of her life Aurelio “Leo” Gonzalez. They began their lives together in Dallas and had 3 children. Adela spent her life raising and caring for her family, as well as educating many children for the Dallas Independent School District at Gabe P. Allen Elementary and Sidney Lanier Elementary. When Leo and Adela moved to Cedar Hill, Texas, she began working with the at-risk youth at Permenter Middle School. Adela had passion and love for working with these children and spoke fondly of them.
Adela’s other passion was serving and learning about God’s word. She loved to share His story with others and would tell her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and any other children who would come into her home.
Adela was also a tremendous nurse and caregiver. She spent some of her last days loving and caring for her husband Leo whom she had been married to for 59 years. We are so grateful for her unselfish love she gave to him.
