He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sariet Covens Allen, his sons Steve, Ira, and David, his daughters-in-law Jamie, Mireille, and J.C., as well as his grandchildren Grace, Daniel, David, Jakob, Joshua, Benjamin and Evan; his sisters-in-law Norma and Libby, niece Sharon Allen Jarchin, her husband Andy Jarchin, and their children Lauren and Michelle Jarchin-Sobel; nephew Jeffrey Allen and his wife Mimi Zieman, and their children Ari, Noa, and Maya. He is preceded in death by his parents, Isadore and Anna Allen and his brothers, Isaac and Aaron.
Following military service in the Navy, Abe completed his degree in pharmacy at the University of Oklahoma in 1950. He moved to Abilene, Texas where he pursued a successful business career. Besides founding a number of healthcare related businesses, he was extensively active in professional, civic and volunteer organizations. He served as city councilman, and was president of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, the Tax Appraisal Board, the Industrial Foundation and the West Texas Municipal Water District. He also served on the boards of a number of public companies. Throughout his life he was active in his local Jewish community. Following retirement, he relocated to Dallas.
A graveside service will be held at noon on April 18, 2013, at Sparkman-Hillcrest Cemetery.
