Mrs. Williams was born in Dallas and was the daughter of the late Edward and
Theresa Detter Shell.
Mrs. Williams was former president of Gaston County Historical Commission,
former president of Hoe & Hope Garden Club, former president of Dal-las Women’s
Club, former vice president of Gaston County Historical Society, member of the
Dallas Morning Glories, member of First United Methodist Church, Dallas, where
she served as chairman of the Worship Committee, president of United Methodist
Women, communion steward, coordinator of Children’s Ministries, Sunday school
teacher and secretary of the Administrative Board.
Mrs. Williams loved being a grandmother.
Mrs. Williams is survived by two daughters, Nancy Spivey and husband Roy of
Sunset, S.C., Shelly Wagoner and husband Jay of Charlotte; one sister, Eddie
Ferguson and husband James of Dallas; two grandchildren, Melanie Broadwell and
husband Alan of Chapin, S.C., Carrie Bassett and husband Barry of Simpsonville,
S.C.; four great-grandchildren, Nancy Blythe Broadwell, Lane Broadwell, Roy
Robert Broadwell, Hoyt Broadwell, all of Chapin, S.C.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at First United
Methodist Church, 301 W. Main St., Dallas.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with
the Rev. Caroll Flack officiating.
Interment will follow at Long Creek Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 56 years, Harmon
O’Dell “Bill” Williams Jr.; one brother, Gaston Shell; three sisters, Rebecca
Blevins, Jane Brasington, Florence DeLong; and aunt, Jonnie Detter.
