Paul Truett High, 88, passed away of heart failure February 27, 2025, surrounded by the family he loved and who loved him dearly. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia Seagle High, daughters Janis Schoedler, Leslie Hunsucker, and Kelly Richter, grandchildren Erin Richter-Weikum, Laura Nash, Phillip Hunsucker, Jordan Campbell, and Max Richter, three great-grandchildren Lewis and Ruby Campbell and Daniel Paul Hunsucker, and sister Shirley Caldwell.
Born in Dallas, NC to Hubert and Lula High in 1936, Paul grew up on a working farm. He lived his entire life in Dallas where he worked diligently to provide for his family and give love and support to Patricia’s family, who cherished him as one of their own. He was a man of quiet faith, living out his Christian values in his everyday life as well as in his commitment to those whom he loved. His wife, children, and grandchildren were assured of his love for them in everything he did. We are all immensely richer people because of his presence in our lives.
Paul was a man of few words, salt of the Earth, who loved and respected nature. His upbringing on a farm provided him with the skills and knowledge that made him an exceptional gardener. He worked with his father-in-law to cultivate fields of corn, melons and beans while also tending to his own gardens brimming every season with peppers, tomatoes, pumpkins, and cucumbers. Paul kept his yard filled with the fruit and flowering trees that Patricia loved as well as a screened porch full of plants. His love of gardening is carried on in his children and grandchildren.
He loved his wife, Patricia, with all his heart. At no other time was this clearer than in the most recent years of him tending to all of her needs as she faced many medical adversities. He gave his all to take care of her.
He will be greatly missed by every one of his loved ones, but we will honor him in our own lives bursting with the memories he gave us of fun times full of laughter, adventurous times exploring the outdoors, and quiet moments when he embraced us and told us he loved us.
Visitation will be at Carothers Funeral Home at 212 W Trade St, Dallas, on Friday, March 14, from 6-8 pm. A graveside celebration of Paul’s life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 15, at Long Creek Memorial Baptist Cemetery on Long Creek Church Rd, Dallas, section E.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Paul’s honor and memory to the Baptist Children’s Homes of North Carolina at P.O. Box 338 Thomasville, NC 27361 (bchfamily.org).
