He was born in Gaston County and was the son of the late Henry F. and Gertrude Farris Rhyne.
D.A. was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War during 1951-1953. He was a 22 year member of the Agricultural Center Volunteer Fire Department and retired after 30 years with Carolina Freight Carriers, Cherryville as a driver. He was a longtime member of Antioch Lutheran Church where he spent many years tending the grounds of the church cemetery. He was a faithful member of the McDonalds and Bojangles Breakfast Club of Dallas.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen Pasour Rhyne; two daughters, Gail Summey and husband Steve of Dallas, Patti White and husband John of Bessemer City; one son, Jeff Rhyne and wife Alma of Dallas; one brother, Bobby Rhyne and wife Frances of Dallas; sister-in-law, Sue Rhyne of Gastonia; five grandchildren, Jeremy Summey, Beth Farmer and husband Tyler, Sean White and wife Hannah, Jacob Rhyne, Joseph Rhyne; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Eugene Rhyne.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Parish Building of Antioch Lutheran Church, 330 Old N. C. Loop Road, Dallas.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Antioch Lutheran Church with Pastor George Rhyne officiating.
Interment will follow in Antioch Lutheran Church Cemetery with military honors by the U. S. Army.
