Daniel Eugene (Gene) Best passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 20, 2017. A native of Gaston County, Gene was born January 22, 1929 to the late Willard and Clyda (Carpenter) Best. Gene was self-employed as an auto mechanic at Best Garage for most of his life. One of his favorite things to do was to watch NASCAR. He was a long time member of Long Creek Baptist Church and served as a Deacon for many years. Gene will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Myrtle Best of Dallas, North Carolina; son, Rickie Best and wife, Mardie of Dallas, North Carolina; step-children, Ray Ashe and wife, Joanne of Dallas, North Carolina, Jeff Ashe of Dallas, North Carolina, Virginia Woodruff and husband, Bill of Maiden, North Carolina and Linda Wise and husband, Bill of Lincolnton, North Carolina; brother, James Best of Charlotte, North Carolina and sister, Marlene Kiser (Hugh) of Jacksonville, Florida; seven grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Betty Jean Reynolds and Virgie Best; brothers, John Best and Bill Best.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Long Creek Baptist Church in Dallas, North Carolina. Reverend Robert Baker and Reverend Robert Wise will preside. Music will be provided by soloist Mike McGee and pianist Mike Woolbright.
Interment will follow in the Town of Dallas Cemetery adjacent to the church. Active pallbearers are Jeff Ashe, Justin Ashe, Patrick Ashes, Bryan Ashe, Jeff Best and Gary Addington. Honorary pallbearer is Ray Ashe.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Dallas Funeral Home, 212 West Trade Street, Dallas, North Carolina 28034.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Robin Johnson Hospice House, 5005 Shepards Way Drive, Dallas, North Carolina 28034.
