James was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather—a kind and joyful soul who brought light to everyone he met.
Born in Dalhousie on May 7, 1941, James was the son of the late William Ross and the late Kathleen McAllister.
On November 27, 1964, James married the love of his life, Evangeline (Pitre) Ross, lovingly referred to by Jim as ‘Peachy’. Their 60 years of marriage were a beautiful example of love, faith, and lifelong commitment. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion to one another and their faith. James dedicated his professional life to his work as an electrician and proudly served as Deputy Fire Chief for the mill in Dalhousie. A natural helper and leader. After his retirement in 2001, James embraced life fully—volunteering his time, supporting Evangeline, and making every moment count with his grandchildren, whom he adored. Whether feeding his pet squirrel Charlie or simply walking through town to greet everyone with a wave, a smile, or a kind word, James made it his mission to make people feel seen and loved. Alongside Evangeline, James served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John Bosco Church, touching many lives through their faithful service. He also shared his heart and wisdom with young people as a catechism teacher, helping guide them along their spiritual journey with patience and care.
James will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Evangeline, and their children: Ken (Kim), Bruce (Tracey), Shelley, and Greg (Jenna). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Ethan Ross, Katelyn Ross & Julia Ross. He also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends, each of whom was blessed by his warmth, his wit, and his generous spirit.
A Funeral Mass to honour and celebrate James’s life will be held at St. John Bosco Church in Dalhousie on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
