Rose’s mother died when she was very young. Rose was a delicate child and because of this, she went to live with her mother’s sister, Aunt Ernestine and Uncle Julien Collins on their farm. Rose grew up with her cousins as part of their family in Plaisance, Washington and Opelousas.
Rose thrived on the farm amid the joys and hard work of farm life. Her specialities were
cooking, sewing and speaking Creole French.
Rose married Edwin Thierry, Jr in 1943 and lived in Opelousas. The young couple were blessed with four children, Juanita Ann, Edwin, III, Constance, and Patrick. They bought a house on 113th St, in Los Angeles where the children grew up.
Rose loved collecting antiques and surrounding herself with beautiful things. Rose was a kind and generous person, always serving her community. She was very active with parish affairs first at Holy Name Catholic Church, then at St Agatha’s. Rose was a eucharistic minister through St. Agatha’s church and delivered the eucharist to homebound parishioners.
When Rose moved to her house on Exposition Blvd, she became active with Kids
Watch at USC, and was part of USC’s Community Ambassador Program. Rose also decided to honor the new graduates of the Los Angeles Police Academy
and often hosted the grads and the police chief with dinners at her home..
