

Louis L. King, age 101 of Los Angeles, California died on July 21, 2023 at Americare Managed Care Guest Home in Culver City. He was born in Los Angeles on October 27, 1921 to parents Florence and Lemandra (Ochoa) King. He was the widower of Dorothy E. Schweder-King who passed on in 2020. Louis was also predeceased by his five sisters and two brothers: Genevieve, Florence, Gloria, Elsie, Helen, Daniel, and Mauro.
Louis graduated from Garfield High School, class of 1940 and subsequently attended Los Angeles and Santa Monica City Colleges. In 1943 Louis was called into active-duty maritime service from the U.S. Naval Reserves. He received his U.S. Merchant Marine Officer’s license from the United States Coast Guard in June of 1948. After the birth of his son, he began working, first as a draftsman in 1954, for General Telephone (now Verizon). He eventually retired from the same employer after 32 years in the telecommunications and electronics field.
Although Louis traveled many of the world’s oceans as a young man, in retirement he loved traveling with his wife Dorothy best of all. Together they went on trips to Alaska, Mexico, China, Arizona, New Mexico, and Northern California. At 93 he drove the two of them to Las Vegas to be married on his birthday, so that he would always remember the date of their anniversary.
Louis is survived by his son - Geoffrey King and daughter-in-law - Doreen (Donahue) of Los Angeles, California; and his grandson – Ryan King also of Los Angeles, California. Louis also cherished the many nieces, nephews, nieces-in-law, nephews-in-law, grandnieces, grandnephews, along with their spouses and children, all of whom often enriched his exceptionally long life.
In keeping with his wishes, Louis was cremated by SoCal Cremations and Funerals. There will be a memorial service at Kardia United Methodist Church located at 1637 Butler Avenue, Los Angeles on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in his memory to: The American Cancer Society or Kardia UMC’s Homeless Outreach Ministry.
