Joyce Crane Sanford

Joyce Crane Sanford, of Culpeper, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 9:14 pm. She was surrounded by her loving husband, three caring and devoted children, and two grandchildren as God opened his arms and welcomed her into Heaven. Joyce was born in Meadows Bluff WV, on July 21, 1934, to B.W. and Martha Crane. Just recently in July, her family and close friends surprised her with a 90 th birthday celebration. She treasured every minute with her family as they enjoyed a delicious meal and special birthday desserts, as well as cards and gifts. It was very fitting that each person there talked about what they loved about Joyce, how she had influenced their life and what they would always remember about her. There was plenty of laughter, a few tears, and an abundance of love shared that memorable day! Joyce married the love of her life, Lacy Sanford, on April 19, 1957, and this year they celebrated 67 years of marriage which was a testament to the power of love. Their journey together will forever be a cherished memory for their family and friends. Joyce is survived by her husband Lacy, her daughter Beverly and husband Barry Guynn, her daughter Martha Sanford, her son Bruce Sanford and wife Tammy, and five beloved siblings, Doris Gearing, Phyllis Wiley and Carol Harrah, Michael Crane and Danny Crane. Joyce is also survived by grandchildren Shane Guynn and wife Heather, Erin Duncan and husband Shaun, Zach Halsey, Trent Halsey, Amanda Chapman and husband Ryan, Jessica Sanford and Joshua Sanford; Great grandchildren Leah Duncan, Charles and Xara Chapman, Cora Sanford and Avery Puffenbarger. Also 3 step great grandchildren Samantha Burns and husband Matt, Zachary Chase, and Sean Chase, and 2 step great-great grandchildren, Hattie and Jocie Burns. Joyce was predeceased by her father, B.W. Crane and mother, Martha Crane; Brothers – Bill Crane, L.E. Crane, Gary Crane, and infant sister, Martha Crane. A Celebration of Life will be held at Clore-English Funeral Home in Culpeper, VA, on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Visitation for family and close friends will be held from 2:00-3:00 pm, followed by a private celebration at 3:00 p.m. and reception afterwards. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont or Tunnels to Towers, an organization that supports homeless and catastrophically wounded veterans and first responders.
