John G. VanNess, 84, of Culpeper, VA and formerly of Raleigh, NC passed away February 8, 2015. Mr. VanNess was born March 4, 1930 in Morristown, NJ and lived in Denville, NJ most of his life and moved to Garner, NC in 1988. He is a past employee of General Drafting Company in Convent Station, NJ, having worked there 35 years and was employed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation for 6 years.
John was very active in his church, the Garner Senior Center and he was a puppeteer for many years in the hospice program in Garner. He also enjoyed traveling to include several trips to Europe, many cruises to Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean, the canals of Europe and the United Kingdom.
Surviving Mr. VanNess are his sons Bruce S. VanNess of Culpeper, VA and Keith S. VanNess of Meriden, CN and his three grandchildren, Jennifer, Amy and Matthew Bryan and one great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years Beverly, as well as, Harry and Margie VanNess.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Reformation Lutheran Church, Main Street, Culpeper, VA with Pastor Brad Hales. Interment will be at a later date in Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, NJ.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Clore-English Funeral Home from 6:00p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
