Jo Backe English, age 71, of Culpeper, Virginia passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024 holding the hands of her husband and daughter. Born in Warrenton, Virginia April 10, 1953 to Eugene Joseph Backe and Daisy Gertrude West Backe, Jo was a true Boss Lady and a real force of nature. She grew up observing hard working people who got things done and that work ethic was apparent in everything she was involved in. She was a devoted and loving wife, a dedicated and hard working mother and a doting grandmother who loved all of her family fiercely. She was a loyal friend to so many and a true "hometown girl" in the community that she dearly loved.
Surviving Jo is the love of her life, Wayne English, their daughter Kristen Jo Johnson and her husband C.J., granddaughter Lilly Madeline Johnson, her mother Daisy West Backe, siblings John Robert Backe and his wife Cindy, Eugene Joseph "Bo" Backe, Jr. and his wife Donna, all of Culpeper, Virginia. Three nieces, a nephew, numerous cousins and family members also survive Jo, along with her beloved dogs Millie and Bella. In addition to her father, her brother Kenneth Burnette Backe precedes her in death.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Culpeper United Methodist Church with Pastor Won Lee officiating. There will be a time of fellowship and food to follow services in the church fellowship hall.
