As a teenager, Warner Oncie Murphree made the decision to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged in 1947 and went on to further his education through the GI Bill, becoming a certified machinist and tool and die maker.
Warner applied his skills at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, where he was employed for the next 25 years until his retirement. His work with the Army took him beyond Huntsville, with assignments in Nevada and Germany. Throughout his career, Warner received multiple commendations for his innovative improvements in the workplace. His contributions were recognized with a letter of appreciation from the base commander and even a letter from President Gerald Ford.
A naturally curious and thoughtful man, Warner was always exploring ways to overcome challenges and improve the world within his reach. He was a devoted family man who cared deeply for his children and often kept a watchful, guiding eye on the neighborhood kids as well. He was no stranger to leading and guiding others in the way life should be lived.
If you were his friend, you had a friend for life. And even if you weren’t, you were still treated with the same respect.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held Monday April 14, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Moss Service Funeral Home chapel. The family will receive friends for a visitation from 11:00 AM until the service time at 1:00 PM. Mr. Murphree will be laid to rest at Cullman City Cemetery 9th St SW, Cullman, AL 35055.
