Roger Dale Kanady, age 81, of Helena, AL (formerly of Arley, AL) went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. He was born in Logan, Alabama on October 31, 1943 to the late Alvin Winfred Kanaday and the late Jessie Marie Taylor. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to many. He was a member of St Cecilia Catholic Church in Jasper, AL. He enjoyed music, fishing, bird watching, Alabama football, and joking with those he loved. He was a quiet man of few words, but was very quick-witted and loved his family wholeheartedly. He served 22 years in the United States Air Force as an aircraft avionics communications maintenance specialist, earning the Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal among many other awards. After his service in the USAF, he retired at Columbus AFB, MS as a Master Sargent and went on to work for United Technologies. Later, he worked in aircraft maintenance for Raytheon and Dyncorp at Columbus AFB until his final retirement to Smith Lake in Arley. He and Jeannie, his loving wife of 59 years, lived and raised their children in Columbus, MS for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dwight Wayne Kanady. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeannie Rae Kanady, daughters Donna Weaver (Wes) of Daphne, AL and Teresa Adams (Dennis) of McCalla, AL, grandchildren Brandon Weaver (Roxy) of Bonn, Germany, Madison Swindle (Rob) of Munster, IN, Josh Weaver of Daphne, AL, Kenzie Kitchens (Noah) of Dora, AL, and great-granddaughters Martha, Lucy, Clara, and Alice on the way. Survivors also include his brother Jimmy Kanaday, sisters Pam Kanaday and Kay Hamilton, all of Cullman, AL, and a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Jasper, AL with visitation open to the public at 10:00am and Mass to follow at 11:00am. Burial with military honors will take place at 2:30pm at Bethlehem East Cemetery, Hanceville, AL.
