Michael Leon Kelso was born in Cullman, Al on May 19, 1948. He graduated from Roger's Vocational School Gardendale, AL in 1969. He worked at Carraway Hospital. In the mid-1990s, he and his parents moved back to Cullman. He died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama on January 19, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his Father Archie Leon Kelso; his Mother Ellen Marie Ellis, and his brother Robert Douglas Kelso.
He is survived by his brother, Anthony (Jeanine) Kelso; Nieces and Nephews who Michael claimed as his own , Michelle (Johnathon) Jernigan; Robert (Tiffany) Kelso II; Emily (Mike) Gault; Angela (Brian) Hundley; and Matthew Kelso.
Michael was a simple man who said what he thought, even if he stepped on some toes. He never had children of his own but took his job as uncle, coach and friend seriously. After high school, he coached pony league baseball and his boys won the world series.
He devoted his life as the caregiver to his parents. He lived with them in Fultondale and Cullman. He was caregiver, housekeeper and chauffeur for more than 40 years. He never let his disabilities stop him in completing a task.
He was determined to finish high school and completed that task when he was 21. Remember this was in the days before special education.
He read his Bible and prayed daily. He knew where he would be in eternity.
A Celebration of Life Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Moss Service Funeral Home in the Fireside Room, followed by a reception.
