Funeral services for Daisy Irene McCormick will be held Tuesday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Moss Service Chapel with interment at New Mt. Zion Cemetery. Mrs. McCormick of Blair Community passed away on April 19, 2014 at her daughter’s residence at the age of 94.
She was born in Athens, Alabama on August 10, 1919 to George David and Dolly Vinson. She is preceded in death by two brothers Eddie and Tommie Vinson; five sisters Ellen Jackson, Clarice Swanner, Mabel Davis, Mary Lucy Hill, and Nella Sullivan; an infant daughter Barbara Sue; son-in-laws Jim Bishop and James Sellers; daughter-in-law Janice McCormick; and her husband of 58 years Everett Edward McCormick.
Irene was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She rode a Greyhound Bus from Athens to Cullman on July 16, 1938 to marry Everett McCormick. They were share croppers with her in-laws in Winston County before moving to Harvey, Illinois in 1957 where they both worked until retirement. In 1979, they moved back to Cullman and were active members of the Jones Chapel Senior Center where her husband, an avid guitar and banjo player, provided the music. They loved to travel and always had a huge garden. She loved spending time with her family and was known for her sweet pepper relish.
Survivors include her daughters Jeanette Bishop (Huntland, TN), Ivonell Sellers (Cullman, AL), sons Jerry (Linda) McCormick (Cullman, AL), Ken McCormick (Winchester, TN), David McCormick (Joliet, IL), a sister Eva Freeman (Athens, AL), and sister-in-law Lena Mae Kilgo (Cullman, AL).
Grandchildren include Raymond Sellers, Kathy (Wesley) Laney, Debbie (John) Blackwood, Scott (Amanda) McCormick, Lisa Stephens, Mark (Samantha) McCormick, David (Kayla) McCormick, and Debi Lee (Joe) Anderson.
Great grandchildren include Rachel Sellers, Jack Anthony Sellers, Weston Laney, Levi Laney, Whitt Laney, John Timothy Blackwood, Jr., Landon Blackwood, Tyler McCormick, Savannah (Dustin) Kelso, Lexi McCormick, Carleigh Stephens, Luke Stephens, Audrey McCormick, Ayden McCormick, Brendan McCormick, Emmelin McCormick, Kieran McCormick, Joshua Anderson, Liam Anderson, and Katie Anderson.
