Funeral services for Helen June Mayo, 87, passed away Jan. 6, 2013. She was born July 20, 1925, in Akron, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Collier. When she was six years old they moved back to Cullman, their hometown. She married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Thomas Mayo, on Dec. 25, 1944.
June was a member of First Baptist Church in Cullman, where she made many lifelong friends, and remained committed to serving the Lord throughout her life. Working in her yard was a joy to her, and pictures of her handiwork were often displayed in the local paper. For many years, she worked in the public sector as the manager of Bargain Town, and enjoyed the many friends she made during that time. Family was of the utmost importance to her, and her love had no boundaries when it came to her grandchildren. They were regular visitors at "Grandmommy's" and she felt blessed to have seen them from their childhood into adulthood.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda M. (Bruce) Lucas; her grandchildren, Adam (Wendy) Lucas and Julia (Ricky) Parvin; and a host of loving cousins and wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, in Cullman, with visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Rev. Jerry Cole and Dr. Bill Johnston officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Cullman, or Woman's Missionary Union Foundation, in Birmingham.
We wish to express our gratitude for the many prayers and concerns from family and friends, and for the excellent care she received at Cullman Regional Medical Center and UAB Medical Center in Birmingham.
