Mrs. Vinson died Tuesday, June 22, in her home. Polly was a business woman, civic and church leader as well as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. A lifelong resident of Cullman, Polly celebrated 53 years of marriage to J.B. Vinson before his death in 1996. In 1962 she founded The Place, a women's boutique clothing store which she co-owned and operated until 1979. Her civic memberships included ESA service sorority, the Lioness Club, the Christmas Love Project and the Chamber of Commerce. She was awarded the Lions Club's Chester A. Freeman Service Award in 1979 and was also selected by The Cullman Times as an Unsung Hero. Polly attended East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for 60 years, sang in the choir, and served in leadership positions in the Cumberland Presbyterian Women's group, Cumberland Presbyterian Youth Group and Vacation Bible School.
Polly is preceded in death by her parents, James and Addie Yeager; her husband, J.B. Vinson; and her brothers and sisters; Iva Yeager Welti, Vernon Yeager, Jewel Yeager Dye, Alma Yeager Keller, Lee Yeager, Mildred Yeager Keller, J.C. Yeager, Velma Yeager Johnson and Ruth Yeager Smith.
She is survived by her son, Steve (Elizabeth) Vinson of Cullman; her daughter, Nan (Earl) Foust of Birmingham; and her grandchildren, Andrew Foust of Memphis, Tenn., and Claire Vinson of Durham, N.C.
The family suggests that memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the East Point Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
