A Funeral Mass for Charlie Charlton, 100, will be Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Cullman, AL, with Rev. Patrick Egan O.S.B. officiating.
Moss-Service Funeral Home of Cullman is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Charlton died Saturday, September 3, 2011. He was a graduate of Bentley College, Boston, Massachusetts. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and in the Air Force Reserve during the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of Major. Charlie was an accountant; he retired from Self Manufacturing in Birmingham at the age of 80. In his retirement, he enjoyed farm work and raising Arabian Horses.
Charlie is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn McQuaide Charlton, and two sisters, Mary Nolette and Elaine Summers.
Survivors include, his 2 – Daughters and Sons-in-Law, Carole (Michael) Yester of Birmingham and Judy (Tom) Williamson of Cullman; four 4 - Grandchildren – Steven (Leanne) Yester, Tacoma, Washington, Alan Yester of Birmingham, Julie (Philip) Whatley of Birmingham, Jeb (Lanie) Williamson of Cullman, four 4 - Great-Grandchildren - Grace and Jacob Whatley and Lucy and Drew Williamson; and extended family, Jaclyn and Matthew Turner, Macie and Kade; and his beloved Nieces and Nephews.
There will be no graveside service as Charlie donated his body to the UAB School of Medicine. In Lieu-of-Flowers, the family suggest memorials to : Stained Glass Restoration, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Post Office Box 1085 Cullman, Alabama 35056 or to CRMC Hospice of Cullman County, Post Office Box 1108 Cullman, Alabama 35056-1108.
Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m.
