Carol Williams Fannin, 90, of Cullman passed away November 15, 2023 at her home surrounded by family. She was born August 23, 1933 in Heber Springs, Arkansas. She quit high-school to care for her cancer-stricken mama and worked to help support her family. Three years later, her papa convinced her to go back and finish her education. Carol reluctantly returned to school and in 1953, graduated as a proud Fairview Aggie. “Can’t never could do nothing.”
Carol was married to her sweetheart, Kenneth Fannin, for 57 years and was a faithful member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. Her career included tenures at Parker and Leeth Bank and 26 years as a clerk at Peerless Coatings. Her passions were attending church, studying the Word, singing, and spending time with family. Carol was gifted at sewing and could make everything from dress shirts and suit pants to wedding and pageant dresses. She thoroughly enjoyed brisk walking, hiking, and gardening. She was known for her canning expertise, particularly dill pickles and kraut. In later years, her chocolate pies were always a hit at after-church lunches and her family was also quite fond of her warm plain-cake and jello during Sunday afternoon visits.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Wayne Fannin; parents, Mary Magdalene Hudson Williams and Luther Floyd Williams; brother, Johnnie Frank Williams; and grandchildren, April Hosanna Allred and Caleb James Allred.
Carol is survived by her children, Mary Fannin Holcombe of Cullman, Susan Fannin Allred (Greg) of Hanceville, Laura Fannin Hale (Anthony) of Vinemont, Aubrey Fannin (Neita) of New Market; grandchildren, Jennifer Lee (Joseph), Seth Allred, Rachel Pirkey (Bryan), Will Allred (Megan), Zachary Allred, Ryan Hale, Adam Hale (Allison), Emily McCluskey (Cody), Christy Keeble (Sonny), and Chloe Fannin; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1pm, November 18, at Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church at Providence on Eva Road in Cullman. Viewing will be from 11am-1pm. Elder Ricky Harcrow and Elder David Guttery will be officiating with graveside services immediately following at Providence Cemetery. Moss Service Funeral Home directing. The family would like to offer sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care and dedication shown to our mama during her last days.
