Barbara was a true Southern Lady that lived her life enjoying family and serving our Heavenly Father along with her husband of 63 years, James Blackwood. Family Christmas at her home was always a time that everyone was welcome and appreciated . She always was active in keeping in touch with her high school friends. Along with her husband they visited and ministered to many nursing homes. They also visited and carried food for many that had fallen on hard times. Barbara was her church pianist for many years of which she loved and enjoyed singing also. She will be greatly missed by her family and all that knew her.
She is survived by her son, Greg (Melissa) Blackwood; grandchildren, Abby, Emma, Brianna and Maria Blackwood; nieces and nephews, Jeff Smith, Chris Smith, Julie McCleskey, Tommy Blackwood, Connie Cook and Dorothy Abbott; sister-in-law, Jan Higgins and several other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Bennett Higgins and Lida Huskey Higgins; her husband, James Edward Blackwood; brothers, Jimmy Higgins and Jack Higgins and sister, Debra Higgins Smith.
Visitation Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 5pm to 8pm at Moss Service Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 2pm at Crossroads Baptist Church. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Brothers David Estes, Doug Pitts and Tommy Blackwood will be officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
