Roberto Velasquez, age 41, of Crystal Lake, Illinois passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024. Roberto was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 23, 1982 to Pablo and Sandy Velasquez. In 2000, Roberto graduated from Wheeling High School and went on to earn his Associate's Degree from Harper College. When Roberto graduated high school, he wanted to join the military but his mother would not let him.
Roberto had many interests and ambitions throughout his career. Early in Roberto's career path he worked in veterinary clinics due to his love of animals. Roberto had dreams to one day start a landscaping company. He worked at FedEx and then Standard Safety for 14 years, before becoming an entrepreneur and starting his own moving company, Velasquez Moving Co. Outside of his career, he studied to become a paralegal and graduated from CNC Machine School, obtaining his heavy equipment license. He loved sports, but specifically basketball and boxing. Roberto was an extremely active person from playing sports to running; he was always on the move.
From a young age, Roberto took on a provider role in his household; he always made sure his family was looked after and protected. When he got married his family grew even bigger, dedicating his life to providing, protecting, and supporting not only his family but also his wife's family. He loved to be called "BATMAN" because he was like a superhero to his family. He became a son to his in-laws. Roberto took his marriage vows incredibly serious, knowing that he now had a wife and family to provide for. He took extreme pride in his role as a son, brother, husband, and father to Yosh. Roberto always called Yosh his "Big Guy". Passionate about his love for God and serving the church, he preached at Pan De Vida. He was baptized at Willow Creek in Barrington, IL in 2007. From that day, Roberto gave his life to the Lord and never looked back.
Roberto is survived by his wife, Blanca Mejia; son, Yoshua Mejia; parents, Pablo and Sandy Velasquez; sisters, Maribel (Jorge Feliciano) Velasquez and Sandra (Samuel Suarez) Velasquez; nieces and nephews, Jennett S. Suarez, Areli S. Feliciano, Samuel J. Suarez, Sarah J. Suarez, Liam Cabrera, and Sofia Cabrera; Parents in-law, Elias Mejia and Margarita Solis; sister-in-laws, Biridiana Mejia, Vicky Mejia, and Ana Karen Mejia . He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sidonia Vasquez, Aristeo Garcia, Juana Rosales, and Sergio Velasquez.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 4pm to 8pm at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home (500 W. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014). A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 12pm at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home (500 W. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014). Interment to follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
