He was born November 7, 1928 in Crystal Lake to Oscar and Dorothy (Cook) Landis. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. On October 26, 1957 he married Joyce A. Sjurset in Woodstock.
Richard worked at Vulcan Materials for 42 years. He enjoyed working on cars and was known in his family as the “oil police.” He could often be seen on his riding lawnmower. He loved baking and cooking. He also never missed a day playing the lottery.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children, Judi Bracken, Rick (Pepper) Landis, and Susanne (Jeffrey) Sayavongsa; his grandchildren, Rodney Bracken, Richard Bracken, Elizabeth (Patrick) O’Neill, Jacqlyn (Shannon) Harrison, Sarah Salazar, Joseph (Amy) Landis, and Andrea Pecoraro; his great-grandchildren, Christopher, Carissa “Trissa,” Andrew, Annabella, Chloe, Jayden, Phoebe, Daniel, and Camden; his siblings, Mary (Jack) Keller and Charles (Mary) Landis; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Sherwood, Phyllis, Ruth, and Barbara.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8pm on Thursday, June 12 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. The funeral service will be at 10:30am on Friday, June 13 at the funeral home.
Interment will be in McHenry County Memorial Park, Woodstock.
