On the evening of December 13th, James (Jim) M. Iddings passed away at the age of 86. He was surrounded by his family while Frank Sinatra played in the background. Jim was born in Berwyn, Illinois to Louise and George Iddings. His father passed away when Jim was only four years old. Jim was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished the times he spent on vacation with Carol and going to the sporting and musical events his children and grandchildren were a part of.
He attended Columbia College for Radio Broadcasting and eventually joined the army, becoming a part of the on-air radio programing in Alaska and Colorado where he was stationed. After the Army, he enrolled at Murray State University and majored in Music Education.
Jim met Carol Carlson while working at Continental Bank in downtown Chicago. They married on August 15th of 1964.They spent the first two years living in married student housing in Murray, KY. while Jim finished his degree and they started their family. Jim and Carol just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
An avid lover of music, Jim taught Choir at Crown and Jacobs high schools in District 300 for 27 years. He also directed the choir at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Crystal Lake. In those years, his love of music left an impactful legacy on so many students and adults. He was known affectionately as J.I. and Mr. Idds.
Jim is survived by his wife Carol, sons Mark Iddings of Crystal Lake and Scott (Jodi) Iddings of Huntley, and daughters Kristin Frerichs of Crystal Lake, and Robin (Paul) Maxwell of Crystal Lake. He also has nine grandchildren - Zachary (Jesse) Dermont, Abby (Adam) Nowell, Nicholas Yokas, Emma Iddings, Nathan Yokas, Sydney Yokas, Ryan Iddings, Joshua Iddings, Teira Frerichs, and Karolynn Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Louise, and father, George.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home at 500 W. Terra Cotta Avenue in Crystal Lake, Illinois from 3:00 to 7:00. A Celebration of Life will be held at Ridgefield-Crystal Lake Presbyterian Church at 8505 Church Street (in Ridgefield), Crystal Lake, Illinois at a later date. Burial will take place privately.
