Gary Richard Johnson, 76, of Algonquin, Illinois passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022. Gary was born on April 12, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Richard and Florence Johnson. He celebrated 56 years of marriage with his wife, Alma Johnson. He was steadfast in his Lutheran faith.
From a young age, Gary enjoyed being on and near water. He loved spending time with his family on fishing trips to Minnesota and could also be found boating down the Fox River. He was a nature aficionado who mastered the gentle art of feeding squirrels by hand, which offset and complimented his passion for cars, lifelong career in mechanical engineering, and self-proclaimed “nuts and bolts guy” title. He enjoyed various genres of music with a couple of his favorites being Elvis and Fleetwood Mac. Most of all, Gary will probably be remembered for his swift delivery of a punchline, his sharp sense of humor, as well as a strong presence and kind heart.
Gary is survived by his wife; children Sherri Russell, Vicki Johnson, and Brett Johnson; grandchildren Rheann Russell, Sarah Juszczak, Bradley Johnson, Jacob Johnson, and Adam Johnson; great-grandchildren Lexi, Aaron, Jase, Cameron and Rose; sister Gail Cushing and brother-in-law Tim Cushing. He is preceded in death by his parents and son Scott Johnson.
Visitation will be held Saturday July 9, 2022 from 9am to 11am at Querhammer and Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Funeral service to immediately follow at 11am. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer society at donate3.cancer.org.
