Dorothy was born on August 3, 1926, to Charles and Gertrude Beck in Port Washington, WI. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Tagatz, and brothers, Fritz and Clarence Beck. Dorothy is survived by her four sons Paul (Sue), Gary, Brian and Mark, six grandchildren, Jessica (John) Fitzpatrick, Andrew Tagatz, Kevin (Kyrstin) Tagatz, Colleen (Cody) Tagatz, Eric Tagatz and David Tagatz. She is also survived by three great grandchildren, Jack and Lucy Fitzpatrick, and Owen Tagatz.
Dorothy’s life was a portrait of love and devotion to family. Bob and Dorothy were happily married for 68 years. Serving as a military spouse and then homemaker and mother of four while Bob traveled throughout the Midwest for work, Dorothy kept the home fires burning. She later was integral to the lives of her grandchildren, caring for them whenever needed and driving them to activities. And Dorothy and Bob remained active parts of their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s lives into their mid-nineties. Dorothy always made her family know how happy she was to see them and how much she cherished them.
Dorothy’s devotion to her faith and church was central to her life. From making sure the priest’s vestments were ironed to melting wax down to make new candles for mass, she made sure she helped things run smoothly. Dorothy was a longtime volunteer at Little Christopher’s Resale Shop, supporting her church and meeting many members of the community.
Dorothy was an avid gardener. Her roses were beautiful each year and she grew delicious vegetables, including crunchy green beans that her grandchildren fondly remember. You would also see Dorothy walking all over the neighborhood. Oh, how many steps she would have logged.
Dorothy’s family would like to thank the staff at Bickford Assisted Living. Everyone there made her feel loved and special and at home.
