Robert E. Smith age 90, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Wendy) Smith, David S. Smith and Kelli A. Smith; grandchildren, Ryan Smith, Melanie Smith and Andrew Smith; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Preceded in death by his son, Timothy Smith.

Spud was born May 30, 1929 in East Chicago, IN to the late Thomas and Elsie Smith and attended Hammond Technical High School. He proudly served our country in the US Navy during the Korean War. Spud retired from Sheet Metals Workers Local 20 with over 30 years of service and moved to Port Charlotte, FL where he enjoyed fishing. He was a master craftsman excelling in all areas of construction and home improvement. Spud will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.

Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens with Pastor Steve DeWitt officiating.

Friends are invited to meet with the family on Thursday morning at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN) from 10:00 AM until time of service at the cemetery.
