RICHARD J. KARPEL ST. JOHN, IN Richard J. Karpel, age 82, of St. John, passed away July 6, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one daughter, Jody Ann (William Bryan) Bell of Franklin, TN; two stepsons: Tom (Vicky) Holme of Wheatfield, IN and Jeff (Penny) Holme of Crown Point; two stepdaughters: Deanna (T.J.) Alderson of Port Byron, IL and Beth (Paul) Mihalich of Lowell; 19 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Rita) Karpel of New Lenox, IL; four sisters: Agnes McLaren, Betty Milligan of Joliet, IL, Mary Ann (Charles) Joseph of Aiken, SC, and Dorothy Witherspoon of Lakewood, CO. Preceded in death by his son, Richard John Karpel; two brothers: Joseph and John Karpel; and three sisters: Margaret Janostak, Genevieve Holmes, and Anna Schoeneck. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 12:00 noon at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave. (1/2 mile south of Rt. 30), Schererville, IN with Rev. Robert Parnell officiating. Friends may visit with the family Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon (time of services) at the funeral home. Richard loved to fish and hunt. He was an avid sports fan, and a member of the Moose Lodge. Richard retired from Commonwealth Edison after 42 years as a superintendent. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area.
