Olga Janik, age 94, of Munster, IN passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021. Olga was born August 23, 1927, in New York City, New York to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Sikora. Olga lived in Manhattan until she moved to Northwest Indiana in 1955. She resided in Munster for 60 years before joining the senior community of Deer Creek for the past seven years.
Olga is remembered as a devoted homemaker who spent her time mastering her talent in sewing and knitting, including handmaking a lot of her own clothes. She was an active volunteer for Sharing Meadows, who's mission is to provide residential living, services, and support programs for other-abled adults. She was also a faithful member of St. Thomas More Parish. During her vacation time, Olga enjoyed riding the Penn Central Railroad from Gary, IN all the way to Grand Central Station to visit relatives in her hometown of New York City and Long Island.
Olga is survived by her son Richard (Mary) Janik; and her daughter Lorraine Janik of Rolling Meadows, IN; her grandsons Christopher (Meghan) Janik, and Daniel Janik of Crown Point, IN; her great-grandsons Andrew Janik, and Jonathan Janik of Brownsburg, IN; and her sister Mary (Martian) Monohan of Maricopa, AZ.
Olga is preceded in death by her husband John E. Janik.
A public visitation for Olga will be held Tuesday, September 28, 2021 from 9AM to 10AM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave., Crown Point, IN 46307. A funeral service will begin at 10AM at the funeral home with burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
