Michaelina "Miki" Beno, age 93, was called to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 22, 2022. She passed peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Miki was born on November 30, 1928, in East Chicago, IN. She resided in the Woodmar area of Hammond for 50 years, where she raised her five daughters with her loving husband, Walter "Wally" Beno. Miki was a long-standing member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Hessville before moving to Schererville and joining St. Michael's church in 1998.
Miki followed in her father Leonard Minelli’s footsteps, adopting his passion for the Cesare Battisti Lodge #27 and his Italian heritage. She served her Italian-American community in the Schererville location since its inception in 1989, with prior volunteer service at the East Chicago Lodge, and retiring at the young age of 80. She was also active in the IAWC (Italian American Women's Club), serving as one of their earliest presidents.
She was an incredible baker and cook, self-taught seamstress, decorator, business partner, and an ardent crafter. Her many talents included floral arranging, wedding and event planning, and decorating the Villa during holidays. She showcased her talents and commitment for over 20 years at the Villa Cesare in Schererville, IN. Her creativity and determination knew no bounds. Miki loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandkids, of whom she was so proud.
Miki is survived by her sister, Vera (Kenneth) Schramm of Sheffield, AL; daughters, Debbie (Brian) Miklosy, Barb (Bob) Nelson, Jeanne (Dale) Thackerson, and Nancy (Andy) Nielsen; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Walter; her beloved daughter, Karen Quinn; and parents, Leonard and Jennie Minelli.
